Week 1: Handshake, Smile, Power posing

Week one

As an introduction to LILTDY we talked about 3 strategies to impress those who we meet for the first time as a good and confident person.

First, handshake is the first somatic touch when we meet somebody who we have not met before. Every first thing is relatively important because the first influences the later thing, so if we can control the first we will go without problems which may occur to us. That's why as the first impression handshake is significant to give a good impression to those who we meet for the first time.

How should we shake hands to reach the goal? Shortly, there are 3 factor, Brief, Firm and Warm. Long handshake implies the willingness to be over the handshake partner. However, brief handshake don't press them, so brief one is recommended. On the other hand, at the same time, we have to show the will and friendship will to communicate with the partner. Thus, handshake must be Firm and Warm. Let's shake hands briefly, firmly, warmly!!!
Second, when we meet a person we don't only shake hands, but also do the other thing, which is smiles. If handshake is a somatic touch, smile will be a spatial touch. Through the space we share we communicate with each other nonverbally. Looks win words. Eyes cannot belie person's true thoughts. More, if we might think we can fake smiles, perhaps our thoughts are penetrated. A study of fake smiles and true smiles shows "real smiles involve facial muscles that fake smiles do not".

Therefore, we should smile using facial muscles consciously to help smooth the relationship between persons.

Do you think she is smiling?

The last strategy is power posing. This behavior aims to show confidence and superiority over the faced person. The man in the below picture is Frank Underwood acted by Kevin Spacey from "House of Cards", which is an american program of Netflix. In this program, Frank do everything including illegal and unethical schemes without hesitation to become the president of the United States.
